American Online Influencer Penalized Following Mass Electric Bike Gathering on Sydney Harbour Bridge

New South Wales authorities have issued a fine against an American social media personality and handed out two driving violation citations for reported negligent driving after a large group of e-bike riders converged on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during peak-hour traffic on a weekday.

The Incident: An Illegal Gathering

A gathering of around 40 people operating electric bikes and motorbikes proceeded along the primary roadway of the bridge, an area where bicycle riding is banned. The assembly then turned around and rode through the downtown area and Haymarket.

"This had potential for people to be injured and killed," remarked NSW police assistant commissioner David Driver on the following day.

Law enforcement indicated they did not chase right away the riders out of safety concerns but instead located the group at a scenic Sydney lookout near the Botanic Gardens, at which point they broke up.

Fines Imposed for Influencer

On Saturday, authorities announced they had issued the American online personality known as Sur Ronster, 26, with two violation tickets for careless operation (not involving death or prior injury), carrying a penalty of $562 and penalty points each, in relation to the bridge incident. They added that inquiries were continuing.

The personality reportedly has more than 3.4m subscribers on one platform and over 1.2 million on Instagram.

Influencer's Comments

The content creator gave comments to a local publication this week following the event spread rapidly on news sites and social media, saying he was sorry for giving "bike life" a negative image.

"I accept the blame. It was one of the safest gatherings I have witnessed," he said. "I am a visitor here, so I’m going to come here respecting the rules and standards of Sydney. So when I decided to do a public meeting it was not meant to include a group ride, it was just to say hi near the bridge."

"I did not know the area well, I am to blame we ended up on the bridge and I had a decision to make: either the group rides the full length of the bridge and turns around, which is a crime. Or we turn around, essentially, before we’re on the bridge. I chose at the time to go back."

Broader Context on E-Bike Regulation

The spate of e-bikes on streets across the country has sparked increasing demands for regulation. A senior government official, Mark Butler, commented that illegal ebikes were a "total menace on the road."

"Kids have done reckless acts on bikes ever since the penny-farthing [but] the harm that are coming into our hospital emergency departments are absolutely devastating," the minister stated. "We must make sure we stop these things coming into the country [and] police are given the authority to crack down, to confiscate them, to crush them, to destroy them."

The state reported 226 injuries related to ebikes in 2024. But, in the initial half of 2025, that figure surged to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four fatalities.
