The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Preview Debuts, Revealing Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Voices
Nintendo and Illumination shared the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. This occurred during a dedicated Nintendo presentation that centered on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
The follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will transport Mario to the distant reaches of the universe. Along the way, he discovers a new princess and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
An Interstellar Journey Inspired by Beloved Titles
In the vein of the games from the Wii period that provide its foundation, Mario will leave behind the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. Throughout his extensive trek, he will meet again some recognizable characters, such as the Luma, a breakout star from the first movie.
However, it seems Mario and his sibling Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who apparently commands metallic abilities. Notably, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also includes nods to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Celebrity Voice Actors Come Back and Grow
The film will see the return of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
A Significant Period for Mario
The new Mario movie is set to release around the time of the four-decade milestone of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his companions.
The company has a set of three fresh titles publicly declared for the upcoming year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Launch Date Set
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
